I ventured off to the library yesterday during my lunch break to get a new book after finishing The Host by Stephanie Meyer. I ended up wandering through the adult fiction section and picking up To Have & To Hold By Jane Green. I have to admit that I only picked up the book because of the cover art. It shows a couple at their wedding, the groom lovingly holding his wife to be and also grabbing what I assume to be the Maid of Honors ass.
The book centers around Alice and her womanizing husband of five years, Joe. He took her away from her true love of cooking, and successful business of catering. In her early years Alice was great friends with Emily, and Alice was also extremely plain. Joe never paid either one of them the time of day until one night at a dinner party they met again. Alice instantly remembered Joe, he didn’t remember her, but said he did anyway.
As their dating years went by Emily dropped off the face of the planet with her own friends and travel plans. Alice was taken from wall flower to jet setter seemingly overnight. Joe had molded her into everything he had wanted her to be. She had lost herself to a man that was not faithful to her and she knew it. She pretends for a long time that she hasn’t heard the rumors around London’s elite social circle. Alice gave up everything she wanted for Joe, her dream wedding, her lifestyle that she would die now to get back, and her friends all in the first few chapters. Joe spends most of the first few chapters sleeping with other women and at work.
I’ll post more once I’m done with the book.
